Spiral Forms
These are spiral sculptures suggestive
of delicate undersea creatures.
I imagine
that they swim underwater, propelling themselves forward by a
corkscrew motion.
They could maintain their screwing motion by a ripple
which moves circularly along the edge.
This one is similar, but with a different pattern to the holes. Both
are made of nylon by selective laser sintering.
Both of the above forms nestle inside a sphere, as this side view makes
clear.
A paper describing the
mathematical ideas is available
here.
